Pregnancy Announcement Photo Ideas
So you’ve just heard the good news. You and your partner are expecting a little one, and you can’t wait to share the news with everyone. But how do you do it?
Sure, you could do it the old-fashioned way: phoning your close family and friends and letting everyone else figure it out in their own time. You could go really old-fashioned and send off a few letters in the post. You could even find a pigeon to send it with.
But before you do that, you should know that the rest of the world has moved on. With the rise of social media platforms like Instagram, people have found better and more innovative ways to announce their pregnancy. Whether with colors, mugs, or even pumpkins, pregnancy announcement posts have become a trend that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. And it’s time for you to get involved!
If you want to post pictures on Instagram or place them into a baby-themed Instagram photo book, this is a great way to have some fun with your announcement and snap some precious memories. Also, if you’re strapped for ideas, below we’ve listed out a few of our favorites, as well as a little info on how to capture the image just right. Starting with pumpkins, because we know you’re dying for a follow-up!
The Pumpkin Pregnancy
If you’ve found out you’re expecting around the Halloween season, there’s no better way to announce it than with a few pumpkins. One of the most innovative pregnancy announcements that we have seen is by choosing two ordinary-sized pumpkins and then one small pumpkin.
You carve your names into the two large pumpkins, then the word “Baby” into the small one. Underneath the mother’s name, you carve out a round hole and place the baby pumpkin inside. Light them up, and then wait for people to figure it out.
The Summer Firework
If you’ve found out you’re expecting in the summer, then it’s completely acceptable to make a fanfare about it. With fireworks. Literally! That’s right, even if it’s not exactly the Fourth of July, pick out some fireworks and print out your ultrasound.
Then, ask one of your friends to take a picture of you and your SO holding up the ultrasound while the fireworks go off behind you. This will lead to a really beautiful picture, perfect for any portfolio or photo book with a Fourth of July theme!
The Pet Accomplice
Another funny one. All you have to do for this one is purchase a small chalkboard and place it down at your cat or dog's feet, with the words “THE LAB RESULTS ARE IN. IT’S A HUMAN” written on the front.
Cute, huh? Well, it is if you have a dog. It’s slightly more sinister if you have a cat, as they’ll look like they’re planning to quickly eliminate any human that comes between them and their strokes. Sinister… but hilarious!
The Winter Baby
If you’ve found out that you’re expecting during the winter, then you know what you’ve got to do. We’ll give you a clue: It involves three socks and a fireplace. Guessed it? That’s right, a great idea to announce your pregnancy during the winter is to create a typically heartfelt and warming scene in front of the fireplace, with three stockings hanging down from your mantlepiece – or, if you don’t have a fireplace, hanging at the end of the bed!
Like the pumpkins, there will be two long stockings, with the words “Mom” and “Dad” stitched on them, and just beside them, there’ll be one tiny baby stocking – so small you won’t even be able to fit the word “Baby” onto it. But don't worry, people will get the idea!
The Simple And Heartfelt
Lastly, if you want to announce your pregnancy in a simple way, with no frills or winks, then we recommend the classic “baby bump picture”. If you wait for some good sunlight, stand in front of the window with your SO and cradle the baby bump while getting your friend to take the picture – make sure they switch on “Spot Metering” mode and snap with high exposure.
After doing this, filter the photo into black and white, leaving you with a bright, atmospheric, and utterly heartfelt picture announcing the good news. This one is particularly perfect for a photo book maker, but remember, you’ll need to post it on social media first, so remember to put your notifications on mute... unless you’re happy to be hearing PING! every second for the rest of the evening!
